The Ins and Outs of the Demolition Process

After the amount of snowfall Cle Elum, Ellensburg, Yakima, and the surrounding areas received all at once this year, it's likely that you may have a building, house, or small structure that needs some attention. Did you have a roof cave in or damaged to the point that it needs to be completely redone? Or, maybe you bought a house on a nice piece of property, but you want to tear it down and start new. With that said, there are a variety of reasons why you might be looking into the demolition process. If that is you, then read on as we break down the project from start to finish.

Assessment

The demolition process is much more complex then one might think. It is essential that whoever you have hired to do the work knows the proper stages not only for the safety of everyone involved or around the construction site, but also for the safety of the environment. Before you even think about tearing down a building, a proper assessment is crucial. You will want to survey the building, looking explicitly at how it was built, materials that were used, the condition of the building and the land around it, and most importantly, any hazardous materials that may be present.

During this stage, you should also start the process of applying for a demolition permit. You can find more information on that process by going to the proper website for the city you are in. Make sure you know the specific requirements, whether you live in Cle Elum, Ellensburg, Yakima, and beyond.

Planning and Preparing

As part of the assessment process, you likely also received a quote from the company who will be doing the work. It's also very important that before you continue on, you have made sure to complete the process of obtaining all the required permits, and have made sure that you have adhered to all city or county ordinances. The next step in the demolition process is to create a plan. Depending on the scope of the job, the location of the building, and the structural support system, a decision on how the building will be demolished will be carefully made. The plan should also show what precautionary measures will take place for the safety of those working in the surrounding area, as well as how all debris and hazardous materials will be disposed of.

Now that a specific and detailed plan has been made, the next step would be to prepare the building by making sure it is completely cleaned out. Most importantly, making sure the electricity, gas, and water that is going to the building has been addressed.

Demolition and Cleanup

With a plan in place, and the building prepped and rid of all hazardous materials and any objects, now the fun can begin. During the demolition stage, the most important component is safety! Making sure all safety protocols are in place and that all workers know their roles and follow all safety measures is a must.

Once the building has been safely taken down, all debris needs to be taken away properly.
